Artist Statement

Ceramics 2 has been a learning experience for me. Throughout the semester, I have learnt many new techniques and methods that have helped my pieces become more advanced. Going into the start of class, my mind set was that I want to be exposed to new ways to make clay pieces and so far, ceramics 2 has done that. In ceramics 2, pieces made on the wheel are the main focus in this class and because of that, I have spent a lot of time perfecting my practice on the wheel. I have become better at even simple things while on the wheel, such as centering and shaping the clay just right. I also learned how to make more intricate pieces, such as instead of just making a bowl, you use the sgraffito method on it and sketch a design into the clay. Ceramics 2 is all about building on beginner techniques and adding harder methods upon that. I enjoyed the fact that this class was not simple because I grew in my ability to make art, which has always been a weakness of mine. From the start, I had set goals for myself that I wanted to achieve and looked up ideas of projects I would challenge myself to make. I would say that overall, I did perform to my best ability in this class. However, if there's one thing I did learn, it is that time should never be wasted in ceramics and I struggled with keeping on task. As the second semester unfolds, I take with me the idea that I cannot procrastinate and that I must not rush any projects.

Second Semester:
This semester I grew and worked harder at facing the wheel. My projects slightly improved, although there wasn't too much of a drastic improvement. I learned how to make extra projects and make things waaay before the due date so I wasn't rushed! And it worked! I am proud of my efforts and I know I gave all I had into this class. Just like all the things said above in my previous Artist Statement, I improved and grew and stuck to my first artist statement promises.
